Masters Seminar - Patterns.
(Sun, 28 Jun 2009 17:35:00 +0000)
Mr Collins, Mr Maslin and Mr Hockaday all attended the Masters Seminar hosted by Master Nardizzi 8th Degree on 21st June. The seminar focused on patterns and Master Nardizzi's encyclopedic mind of Taekwon-Do was as usual apparent. The fundamentals and secrets on Taekwon-Do were covered and we all went home exhausted with much to think about.

I would recommend a seminar with Master Nardizzi to anyone who is interested in real ITF Taekwon-Do!

So, it seems I haven't been updating the blog recently, since the last post we have had two colour belt gradings - so congratulations to everyone who passed and is working their way up the ranks, we also had an IMPACT Masters seminar in Febuary hosted by Master Nardizzi where we were taught some excellent self defence techniques.

So - I'll attempt to keep this blog more up to date from now!

2008 Vision Open TKD Tournament
(Sat, 29 Nov 2008 09:36:00 +0000)

It was an Early start for Mr Collins & Mr Maslin, leaving at 6am to ensure a comfortable arrival at the fantastic K2 Leisure centre in Crawley for the 1st Vision Open TKD tournament.

Mr Collins was appointed as floor judge for the day and was extremely busy marking patterns, scoring sparring and refereeing hard fought sparring bouts.

Mr Maslin was acting as Cams Hill Tkd's Team Coach - clearly a difficult role, but a role few people could fulfil....!

First on were the Black Belts starting at 9am with Adult Patterns - Throughout all the Black Belt competition the standard was extremely high, the level of training by all these athletes was high and the pay offs obvious. Patterns were sharp, and sparring hard and
fast.

Cams Hill TKDs' first competitor Mr Matthew Hockaday, 1st degree, nervously entered the ring at 11am to perform Pattern Kwang Gae. This was Matt's' first competition as a Black Belt. He performed his pattern well, with one minor pause, which cost him the victory. However he lost to the eventual winner "Bin Quan" who is clearly one to watch for the future.

Next up was Matt's' sparring, a difficult challenge against a much larger and older opponent, who was only prepared to counter spar, Matt made all the running but was picked off with some well executed punches. Some good lessons were learnt to take back to the training hall.

Colour belts arrived after lunch and Bradley was first up for Green Belt patterns, back to back performances showed Bradley's fitness levels and after several rounds Bradley made it to the final, only to be piped to second place. Cams Hill Tkd's first medal - A well
deserved Silver.

The Veterans Patterns were up next with Dave Hockaday & Steve Brooks competing in Yellow & Green belt patterns; with a nervous start Dave picked himself up and managed a very respectable Bronze Medal.

Minds were quickly focused onto the Colour Belt sparring - Dave Ford performed well to earn a Silver Medal, and Andy Ottaway managed a bronze, after taking his bout into extra time.

Bradley faced some tough competition in his green belt sparring but performed exceptionally well, using his fast reverse hooking kick to its optimum and taking a gold medal.

Over all Cams Hill had one gold, two silver & two Bronze medals, a great haul from a team of 6, putting Cams Hill Tkd into 18 place in the overall rankings. A great performance that will hopefully encourage more people to enter next time.

IMPACT DAY 2008
(Sun, 19 Oct 2008 15:17:00 +0000)
On Saturday 10th October, Matthew Collins, Richard Maslin and Scott all attended Impact Day.  6 hours of training from the top instructors in TKDImpact.  The day started at 10am, and there was a choice of three seminars for each of the 6 hour slots.  It was difficult to choose from what were al guarunteed to be great sessions.

We started with patterns with Master Nardizzi 8th Degree showing the higher graded black belts the finer points of the Black belt patterns, carefully explaining why certain things are performed a as they are.  Throughout the day there were sparring seminars, fitness seminars, flexibility and core strength sessions, as well as a very impressive special technique seminar from Roman Kirtoca.

We all thought it was an excellent day and a unique opportunity to train with some of the best Taekwon-Do practitioners in the UK.  Everyone is strongly encouraged to attend next years event!
Grand Master Choi Jung Hwa Seminar
(Thu, 09 Oct 2008 21:18:00 +0000)
Mr Collins and Mr Maslin attended a seminar with Grand Master Choi Jung Hwa, son of General Choi the founder of Taekwon-Do.

It was a privilege to be in the same room and train with a Grand Master of this stature, Master Choi's enthusiasm, dedication and skill in Taekwon-Do is obvious.  Everyone in the room listened intently to every word he said.  We covered the fundamentals of Tul and why why do them, and also worked on some basic kicking concepts.  As usual with these events time ran out.  Over 80 people were in attendance of all grades.  Thanks go to Master Nichols for allowing us to attend this event, its good to see politics put to one side so everyone can train together. !

Congratulations Matt Hockaday.
(Wed, 08 Oct 2008 20:06:00 +0000)
Congratulations go to Matthew Hockaday who successfully passed his Black Belt grading on saturday 4th October.
The grading started at 2.30pm in Crawley and finished at around 6pm.  The grading was tough as usual and included performing all colour belt patterns, kicking techniques, power, sparring, 1step, self defence and flying techniques as well as a long theory session.  Master Nardizzi 8th Degree and Chairman of Taekwon-Do Impact conducted the grading.

The hard work and dedication that Matthew has shown over the past years and months has paid off with this result.  Well Done!!!
